A summary of recent activity by the Federal Government

Ana Brennan, J.D.

On December 20, 2019, President Trump signed a 1.4-trillion-dollar spending bill to keep the government operating until September 2020. As is the nature of omnibus spending bills, numerous appropriation bills were rolled together.

December 17, 2019 - The spending bill regarding domestic agencies passed the House 297 to 120. The national security spending bill passed 280 to 138.

- An attempt by Democrats to amend the bill to reverse the Mexico City Policy failed.

- Even though efforts to undermine regulations prohibiting Title X money from going to abortion, were thwarted, Planned Parenthood is still receiving over $500 million from the federal government under this spending bill.

December 19, 2019 – Both bills passed the Senate.

December 20, 2019 – President Trump signed the bills into law.
